UNIVERSITAS KRISTEN INDONESIA

Soon after Indonesia gained independence in 1945, Indonesian Christian leaders felt the need to establish the Church Council in Indonesia (DGI), which materialized on May 25, 1950. Initially focusing on addressing educational needs in post-independence Indonesia, DGI formed a commission led by Prof. Dr. I.P. Simanjuntak to explore the feasibility of establishing a university.
The resulting resolution on June 30, 1953, called for the creation of Christian Universities, urging support from churches and Christian communities. Subsequently, the Indonesian Christian University Foundation was founded on July 18, 1953. The foundation expanded its membership and, three months later, on October 15, 1953, inaugurated the Indonesian Christian University (UKI) with faculties such as Letters and Philosophy, Economics, Law, Medicine, Engineering, and Social and Political Sciences.
